To The Seaside Apartment / Oradea, Romania / 2024

I designed this apartment for a young couple to feel like an eternal holiday at the seaside, even if it’s 750 km far from the nearest sea. 🙂

Summer seaside apartment, living room view.

This was the clients’ main wish — “to feel like a holiday at the seaside” — and that became the guiding concept of the project.

Of course, we wanted to avoid obvious or cheesy seaside references, choosing instead to evoke that feeling through materials, fabrics, and colors. We started with natural wood floors — a material I adore, as you may have already noticed throughout my projects — and paired it with a light sand tone for most of the walls. Turquoise hues were also a requirement, so we went bold with the kitchen and the bed, slightly softened the tone for the sofa, and kept it even more subtle for the living room and bathroom walls.

White shutter doors for the dressing, wicker chairs and baskets, rope light shades, rattan front doors for furniture, jute rug, all reference the relaxed spirit of summer by the sea.

The large living room is composed of two distinct areas, as the clients wanted both a sofa zone and a separate armchair reading-and-chilling corner, which could also accommodate overnight guests. Since natural light enters from only one side, we chose large sliding glass doors with opaque panels, allowing light to pass through while maintaining privacy. We used the same sliding door system to make the kitchen closable as well — this time with transparent glass — whenever needed.

The sliding doors were custom made by Bim Wood.
